Upland is old field, skirted by pines, invaded by Japanese barberry. Steep upland shale slopes include sterile forest and shale barrens.;Backwater slough along the upland edge of a broad floodplain. Slough holds water as evidence by bare silt, now dry, stained tree trunks, and center of slough an alley without rooted trees, but completely shaded. Forest is dominated by silver maple with scattered ash.
Representativeness
Sampled center of slough to avoid Phalaris and Microstegium,. Wetland w/ standing water earlier in the season. Silver maple dominance continues upslope 5-10 m on each side.
